Character Design

When we were first creating Keith, we wanted him to be older than the other characters, most of whom were teenagers or young adults. However, he needed to be youthful enough to match a storyline where it made sense for him to still be working at Orion.

Gender: Male

Age: 45

Race: White

Hair Color: Brown (a little bit gray)

Eye Color: Brown

While making him look mature, we also gave him dark brown hair. This shows a distinctive age contrast between characters like him and Klaus, who has silver hair.

On the other hand, one of the problems we ran into was how similar he might look to other characters. For example, Keith and Wade Walker are not only close in age, but they also both have brown hair and eyes. Because of this, we made sure that the two of them had distinctly different clothing.

Wade has more of a crazy scientist look, as he can be seen wearing a lab coat most of the time. We’re planning to add accessories, such as a cheap welding helmet or work goggles in relevant cutscenes. In contrast, there’s almost never a time where you can’t find Keith not in something at least slightly formal.

The character design, was finalized in Photoshop before being recreated using a 3D face modeling app. The 3D model was then tweaked in an art program called Procreate.

Atlas’ Conscientious Commentary…

When I was outlining this character in photoshop, I used a number of male models as a visual reference. However, being that Keith is the CEO of a multi-million dollar company, we also want him to look like a multi-millionaire. In other words, he has to dress the part.

I approached this by giving him semi-formal clothing that he can be pictured in (such as cutscenes). To the picture on the far right, you can see he’s wearing a black suit coat. This makes him impressionable to investors and the general public. Not to mention, it emphasizes his leadership in front of Orion employees.

However, to create a balance in his wardrobe, the picture to the left shows him without the suit coat. To create some contrast, I’m planning on making additional outfits, along with some accessories (e.g. watch, necklace, tie).
